Acoustic
Design

Bosco della Musica is a complex ecosystem of spaces dedicated to music production, education, and performance, where acoustics is not a constraint to be met, but an integral part of the design.

The acoustic challenge is twofold: providing optimal conditions for listening and music-making while controlling sound transmission between spaces and towards the outdoors.

In the absence of specific regulatory requirements for sound insulation, building services noise, and indoor acoustic quality, it was necessary to define performance targets aligned with the actual use of the spaces.

Here, sound is not a problem to solve, it is the material of the project. And when regulations do not provide the answers, design makes the difference.

Drawing on international best practices, we defined performance targets and designed spaces intended to sound right for students and musicians, balancing acoustic quality, architectural constraints, and economic sustainability.

Developed under a demanding schedule, this large-scale project required – and will continue to require – an open and collaborative process. As a result, some design solutions will be refined during construction through ongoing dialogue with the Conservatory, ensuring that acoustic performance remains aligned with the real needs of its users.
