Feltre’s new school reflects the principles of contemporary educational design: an open, bright environment with a strong connection to the outdoors.
The facade represents one of the project’s key challenges: combining extensive glazed surfaces with the need to achieve high levels of acoustic insulation
Another defining aspect of the project is the use of timber construction systems, including CLT and timber-frame structures. These technologies require careful control of acoustic performance, particularly during the predictive design phase, where reference data and established practices are still evolving.
Opening spaces while keeping noise out.
Balancing transparency, lightness, and acoustic performance.
These design choices present specific challenges in learning environments, where acoustic requirements are particularly demanding: sound insulation between classrooms, background noise control, and reverberation management become essential conditions for ensuring speech intelligibility, concentration, and the quality of the learning experience.
